ISEB Software Testing Intermediate
The ISEB Software Testing Intermediate training course is available at our Cardiff training centre in Wales, which is also within easy reach of Newport, Bristol and South Wales
Overview
This course is a four-day tutor led course using a mixture of slide presentation, lecture and practical exercises using scenario-based multiple choice questions. A revision session using scenario-based multiple choice questions and mock exam take place on the morning of day 4. The exam is sat on the afternoon of day 4
The Intermediate Certificate in Software Testing examination is suitable for those who are engaged in any aspect of software testing. It is the next level of competency in software testing after foundation level. It examines up to level K4 of the given learning objectives / levels of knowledge and has been rated SFIA Plus level 4 by the BCS.
The topics covered are those which are considered to be essential knowledge for an advanced level test professional, regardless of their specialism (i.e. Test Analysis or Test Management). A pass in this certificate provides evidence that the candidate has proven analytical ability, having gained knowledge and practical skills in the key topics required for practicing software testing.
Prerequisites
The entry criteria for candidates taking the Intermediate examination are as follows:
Candidates must hold the ISEB Foundation Certificate in Software Testing AND either:
- have at least 18 months experience in software testing or
- have completed an ISEB accredited training course for the Intermediate Certificate in Software Testing

Testing Fundamentals
- Review of the Foundation Certificate syllabus; application domains; testing in the lifecycle; the fundamental test process
Reviews
- The principles of reviews; types of review; using different review types; performing a formal review
Testing and Risk
- Introduction to risk and risk-based testing; risk management; product risk identification and analysis
Test Management
- Test policy, test strategy, test plans; entry and exit criteria; estimating techniques; test monitoring; incident management process
Test Analysis
- Fundamentals of test analysis; test environment requirements; selection of techniques; coverage measures
